“Books have the power to transport us to new worlds and different times, but they can also take us back to the important moments in our own lives”.

From building your vocabulary to reducing stress, preventing age-related cognitive decline and increasing your ability to empathize, reading books is an easy way to look after your mind and body. Literary Week was organized at Beaconhouse Elementary Campus PECHS from 20th October till 26th October 2022. It was arranged to celebrate the value of books and literature. Student’s zeal and enthusiasm was evident during the activities and workshops organized by the Library.

The week started with DEAR time (drop everything and read) in which everyone including students, teachers and all other staff members were encouraged to read pre-selected text, story books, readers, novels, magazines etc. Everyone enjoyed reading their books.

Book Buddy Activity was arranged on the second day of the literary week, the students from the higher grades read books for their young fellow students and also asked questions at intervals relevant to the stories. To make the story telling session effective, senior students  were also motivated to use proper intonation and pronunciation during the story telling activity. Students had a lot of fun reading the books with their book buddies.

On the third day of the literary week, the students were engaged in a book making activity, The students were given a chance to picture their imaginations in the form of a book and create an interesting and fascinating design of their own story book. The students created amazing masterpieces decorating the cover pages of their booklets and wrote their imaginative stories inside their booklets.

The students were really excited for the fourth day of the literary week as they were really excited for the “Read my shirt” activity . The students and teachers wore shirts with text on it. A show and tell session commenced in which all the students and teachers read the texts on each other’s shirts. The students engaged and involved in this activity enthusiastically as it was a really interesting and unique idea for them.

The literary week culminated with full dynamics as this was the day of the character parade, where the students and teachers dressed up as their favourite characters and participated in the parade. They were also encouraged to talk about their favorite story books. As they dressed up in their favorite characters, they also loved to say a few sentences about their favorite character and why they love this character? The whole school was filled with different colors on this day and it was a great sight.

The innovative activities designed for this week supported in inculcating the value of love and respect for books in our young learners and it surely helped to get acquainted with language and enrichment of vocabulary at this stage.

Let your child see you read and encourage them to read at home also as Margaret Fuller said, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader”
