Ahh. Eid morning again. What a delightful dreamy day. The Sun is shining the birds are chirping and wherever I go I see people grinning from ear to ear.
I got out of bed at twelve pm which was really early for me since it’s not a school day. I may have just gotten out of bed but I was ready to dive right in and I would have but my Mom came into the room and saw that I was awake so she told me to get ready.
When I came out of my room I saw that my sisters Rida and Ayesha and my Dad were just finishing their shirkhurma. I on the other hand haven’t even brushed my teeth.
When I was done getting ready into my Eid dress I went outside and showed my mom. As always she’d take me to the big mirror in the living room. Then she’d show the rest of the family. Everyone else was in their Eid dresses.
“Where are we going today?” I asked my Dad when we sat in the car. “I don’t know.” He replied with the same joke he tells every year to annoy me. “We’ll just turn the wheel left and right and see where we land.” He continued, and after that we sat in the car and prayed Dua’s.
We had been on the road for an hour and we left before sunset, and now it’s night. I was in the back seat with my sister Rida and Ayesha. Rida was fast asleep, while Ayesha kept watching her instagram reels, with my Mom in front praying her Dua’s and my Dad next to her driving.
“We’re here!” Yelled my Dad from the front seat. “Finally!! I don’t ever remember liking those words so much before.” I thought.
When I got out of the car I could see no restaurant. We parked in front of someone’s house. I asked my Dad to tell me where we were. All he said was “I don’t know. Maybe some strangers will give us some food.”
We rang the bell and to my surprise my grandmother’s little sister came out who we call…”Choti Dadi.” I screamed. “Assalamalaikum Ajwa, Rida, Ayesha, Imran and Sonu.” She said while hugging me. By the way, she calls my Mom Sonu and my Dad’s name is Imran.
We went inside and we saw Sana Cachi and Riyaz Uncle. Choti Dadi called everyone else down. I tried to talk in urdu but… My mom corrected me repeatedly that day.
We sat down to eat but before I went to wash my hands I played with the two cats they had then I washed my hands. I sat down and ate fries and rice. After my Mom told me to go upstairs and sit with Azan and Raya while the grownups are talking.
A little while later I came down and asked if I could play basketball with the boys. When I came outside I tried to score a point but… the hoop was so high that I could never get a single point. Not even one. My Mum said “Come on Ajwa. It’s time to go.” Before we left we said Allah Hafiz.
We went in the car and drove home. When I was done changing my clothes I dived into the bed and said to myself “That was an amazing day!”
I got so caught up in the story that I almost forgot to wish you guys…
Eid Mubarak.
Hope you and your
Famili have a delightfully dreamy day.
