Weather disasters are terrifying. They bring alot of uncertainty and disbelief. However, the human reaction to disasters and how people behave when the rules of civility and society are obliterated is even more frightening!
Students of Grade 3 completed their Social Studies PBL project on ‘Extreme Weather Disasters’ to understand weather uncertainties and prepare themselves and others for natural disasters. In the Ideate Phase of their PBL they designed an action plan to protect themselves and others before, during, and after the disaster.
The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”- Ralph Waldo Emerson
To make their part in saving others’ lives, students of grade III culminated their project by raising funds for people who got struck by these weather disasters. They arranged a Bake Sale in school on Tuesday, 23rd of November 2021 where every child bought some appetizing food. This activity helped our students develop the attributes of the BSS Learners Profile and realize that even their small efforts can make a difference.
This Bake Sale was arranged in 2 slots to involve students of grade III in different activities. Different stalls were set up that had sweet corners, sandwiches, pizzas, and juices. There was an Information Station where the students raised awareness about being prepared for weather disasters. They also designed emergency kits and flyers and presented them to the audience to get themselves ready for impending natural disasters.
It was a pleasure to see the enthusiasm of students in making this Bake Sale a huge success. The amount collected will now be donated by these students to a Disaster Relief Foundation.
Hats off to all the parents, students, and teachers for their phenomenal participation.
I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”-Mother Teresa
