I am a teacher Who Believes Every Child Is a Leader in their own way!
As teachers, we often ask ourselves: How can I help every child think creatively, confidently, and independently? One of the most powerful tools I have discovered in my classroom is the use of picture prompts.
A single image can unlock a thousand stories. It can turn a quiet child into a storyteller, a hesitant writer into a confident author, and a simple lesson into a leadership opportunity.
When I use picture prompts, I intentionally connect them to the 8 Habits of Leader in Me so that imagination grows alongside character.
Why does Picture Prompts work so well?
They reduce fear of “What should I write?”
They support visual learners who cannot express themselves through writing.
They encourage emotional expression.
Picture Prompts are very important to work with students of diverse needs.
I have experienced it myself while teaching a student with diverse needs where he never wanted to take part but when he was shown pictures he felt included and wanted to share his perspective as he could easily connect the dots after looking at the picture which he would not have otherwise.
A picture is not just an image, ‘’ it is a doorway.’’ This is because a picture opens the mind to places beyond what we can immediately see.
When we use picture prompts intentionally, we are not just teaching writing. We are nurturing leadership, empathy and creativity.
Above all, as educators, we remind our students that their thoughts matter.
You have imagination. You have ideas. You have a voice.
And your voice can LEAD!
