I thought I was making friends but I was also discovering new worlds. Having friends from Japan, China, Malaysia, India and Switzerland has shown me how much we can learn from different cultures.
I learned about Hari Raya, Christmas and Chinese New Year. Although CNY has its own story and traditions, I noticed similarities to Eid: families visit relatives, share food, sweets and exchange envelopes. I even joined a dragon dance with my Chinese friends during CNY!
During a cultural event in Singapore, I proudly shared Pakistani culture. My friends wore Sindhi topics, waved the Pakistani flag and learned about our traditions. I felt so happy and proud!
My Japanese friend Sajiro taught me how to count in Japanese and make origami. We had so much fun learning together.
I also discovered that Eid ul Adha is celebrated differently around the world. In Pakistan, we say Eid Mubarak, while in Singapore, people say Selamat Hari Raya.
Living among different cultures and adapting to their ways has expanded my learning and my world.
