Beaconhouse School System Elementary campus Block 3 PECHS came alive in a very different way as students of Grades 2 and 3 gathered in the evening to celebrate Earth Hour. There was a quiet excitement in the air as the sun set and the time for Maghrib passed. Soon after, the lights were turned off, leaving only the gentle glow of torchlights and natural fire. It created a calm and magical atmosphere, reminding everyone how beautiful simplicity can be.
The students began with a creative activity where they made baskets from old newspapers. This simple task carried a powerful lesson: we can reuse and recycle things instead of wasting them. It showed the children that even old paper can be turned into something useful and beautiful.
Next, they explored “treasure from trash,” turning discarded items into creative pieces. This activity taught them that what we often consider waste can actually become something valuable. It encouraged them to think differently about protecting the Earth by reducing garbage.
The students then discussed important issues that people on Earth face, especially related to electricity and water. They shared ideas about saving energy and not wasting water, learning that small actions can make a big difference for our planet.
Another engaging activity was creating stories using newspaper collages. Through this, students expressed their thoughts about Earth and its care. It helped them understand the importance of spreading awareness in creative ways.
The quiz game added excitement and learning together, with questions about saving the Earth. It strengthened their knowledge and made them more aware of their responsibilities as young citizens.
The evening ended beautifully as students sang a song together for healing the Earth. It was a heartfelt moment of unity and hope.
This experience was truly special. It was not just fun-filled but also meaningful. It reminded us that we must love, protect, and care for our Earth because it is our only home.
