Learner of the month

Developing internationally open-minded people requires more than just textbook learning. Humanity and shared guardianship are necessary to maintain peace and harmony in the world. Our diploma faculty and students, as IB learners, ensure that these crucial traits are embedded in us. Caring, Balanced, Knowledgable, Risk-taker and Communicator are a few examples of the 10 Learner Profile attributes that are a part of the Diploma.

IBDP PECHS Campus does a great job of highlighting the significance of these for the learning process of our learners. On the first day, students were handed out the list of attributes assigned to the 10 academic months of the year. Every month a student from both the batches of DP1 and 2 is awarded the Learner of the Month title for the allocated attribute. This practice calls out our attention to always abide by these traits and adopt them. Every month one of these traits is highlighted for the students to work on and represent in their everyday behaviour. Simultaneously, all the teachers are asked to observe and recognize these qualities in the students throughout the month. Later, they vote for a student they think are best suited for the title, and by this process, the most deserving candidate wins it.

A wall is assigned to this practice, which is wonderfully decorated by the calligraphy of all the learner profile contents, on our campus. This wall is also used to project the monthly winners amongst both, the senior and junior batches, with their pictures and names displayed along with the monthly characteristic. Once every month all of us are asked to gather around the display for the ceremony of revealing the winners. While all are excited to see who the suited person is, we do like to share our guesses before the final reveal and hype up the moment of truth. At that time, nothing but cheers and applause can be heard.

We are 3 months into this term, which means we have had an attribute for each month. August was the first month, and it consisted of the trait; Open-Minded. This was awarded to Ali Murtaza from DP2. September was the first month when students from both batches were assigned these titles. This month, Lamia Rashid and Sandesh Kumar from DP2 and 1, respectively, won the title of being Thinkers. The most recent trait for the month of October was ‘Inquirer’, which was awarded to Shaham Essani and Ayesha Hanan.

We are privileged to have this program to enhance our personalities and systematically immerse these factors in us, all gratitudes to the IBDP!
