House System

The BSS PECHS IB diploma program categorises students into 4 different houses, namely, Skyler, Gale, Aurora and Iris.

The purpose of assigning these houses is to stir a sense of responsibility and unity in the students that teaches them the skill of working in a team. The system of Houses ensures this excellently. Each student’s behaviour, academic performance, class participation, punctuality in class and assignment submissions contribute highly to his or her house points. Moreover, participating in CAS activities, competitions and social events is also a means to gain house points. An example would be the recent Welcome Party to the beach, where houses competed in making the best sandcastle to gain house points. They also satisfied the ‘Service’ category of CAS by seeing which house could collect the most litter during the time limit set by the organisers.

Academic house points are decided and given by the respective teachers, whereas the non-academic points are given by the IBDP Management of PECHS Campus. But why are house points so important? And what is to gain from them? Well, at the end of the academic year, the house with the most house points receives an award!

So, with that being said, don’t you think that the house points system is a perfect example of teaching students that every individual’s contribution to team projects is worthy? Do you think it could prove to be beneficial for students when stepping into their university years?
