A Two-Day Cambridge Global Perspectives Training for Beaconhouse Teachers
“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardour and diligence.”
– Abigail Adams
It is indeed thrilling to share some fantastic news from Beaconhouse Karakorum Campus! Recently, BKC was abuzz with energy and enthusiasm as it hosted a dynamic two-day in-person training session. In the rapidly evolving landscape of education, staying ahead means continuously refining teaching methodologies and deepening subject knowledge. This was the driving force behind this training session, a collaborative effort between Beaconhouse School System and Cambridge Assessment International Education, specifically designed for the dedicated BSS teachers involved in the Cambridge O Level (2069) and IGCSE (0457) Global
Perspectives courses.
The training kicked off with a warm welcome and an introduction to the overarching goals of the session. Participants, who were selected from various Beaconhouse campuses, were eager to dive into the world of Global Perspectives, a course that challenges students to think critically about global issues and develop informed, reflective opinions. The session had a hands-on approach that has encouraged collaboration among educators from different campuses, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.
During these focused sessions, participants were introduced to innovative teaching strategies designed to foster critical thinking, research skills, and collaboration among students. Interactive workshops allowed participants to engage with the material firsthand, simulating classroom scenarios and exploring best practices for guiding students through complex global issues. Cambridge experts provided detailed guidance on evaluating student work, with a focus on the reflective project, a core component of both the O level and IGCSE syllabi. Teachers
learned how to assess student portfolios, research reports, and presentations, ensuring that grading is consistent, fair, and aligned with Cambridge standards.
As the training concluded, there was appreciable sense of accomplishment and excitement among the participants. The two-day session had not only equipped them with new tools and strategies but also inspired them to take their teaching to the next level. The collaborative effort between Beaconhouse and Cambridge had proven to be a resounding success, underscoring the power of partnership in advancing educational excellence.
Teachers left the training with a renewed commitment to nurturing the next generation of global citizens students who are not only knowledgeable about the world but also capable of making informed decisions and contributing positively to society.
“We now accept the fact that learning is a lifelong process of keeping abreast of change. And
the most pressing task is to teach people how to learn.”
