As human beings, language is the most fundamental requirement for communication. However, as the world is becoming more interconnected, we have started to heavily rely on a few common languages. There is no denial that this is successful for international collaboration, yet it leaves many world languages vulnerable to extinction.
Our national language Urdu has always played a significant role in creating a feeling of unity and national cohesion. To pay tribute to this beautiful language and to develop students’ keen interest in Urdu, a quiz among students of 10 Cambridge was arranged by the Urdu Department at Beaconhouse Metropolitan Campus-Girls. The quiz was divided into two phases. Participation in the qualifying round was mandatory for every student of X- Cambridge. Four teams qualified for the finale for which students were given a few days of preparation from their syllabus.
The Finale consisted of four rounds. The first round comprised “Picture Identification” -students had to identify authors and poets by looking at their pictures. The second round was a question answer round. In the third round, students had to complete the given verses. The final nail biting round was designed on “Kahoot” where a variety of questioning techniques were used to elevate the level of challenge!
Although, one team was the winner, the main aim of engaging students in Urdu related activities was accomplished successfully as all teams participated enthusiastically and struggled to win the contest. Certificates were distributed amongst the participants and the winning team members by the worthy Head Mistress Mrs. Rakhshanda Asad.
