A single picture can express something more clearly, vividly,or succinctly than a large amount of words can. Storyboarding, or picture writing, is the origin of all written languages, used by ancient cultures before text evolved. The Chinese language was built using pictographs. Egyptians used storyboards, or hieroglyphics, first etched in stone and later written on papyrus.

With technology on the rise today, the definition of what storyboards are has taken a step back to its meaning as a visual way to tell stories. Storyboards have started to appear more in one of the most incredible places which is our classrooms. The storyboard teaching strategy helps students keep track of main ideas and supporting details in a plot by having them illustrate important pictures in a story.

In order to encourage visual thinking, students of Middle Section at Beaconhouse Metropolitan- Girls, participated in an engaging contest of creating storyboards. In the first round, every student participated enthusiastically by creating their storyboards on the topics provided. In a challenging second round, the finalists went an extra mile to exhibit their creativity and constructed some rich and evocative picture stories.

The outcomes of this competition prove that picture stories play a critical role in learning, helping students develop self-awareness and teaching them how to make inferences and how to analyze stories in fewer words.
