The mighty Bala Hissar Fort has gone through constructions and destructions numerous times by Kings, conquerors, invaders, and warriors. Originally built by Babur, the first Mughal Emperor, it was destroyed and later rebuilt by the Afghans. The name ‘Bala Hissar’ was suggested by the Afghan Pashtun King Taimur Shah Durrani. It was again captured, trashed and then rebuilt in its present form by the Sikhs. Its outer walls were later constructed by the East India Company.

Since 1907, the Fort is used as the headquarters of the Frontier Corps. It is a remarkable historical place to visit. Most of the existing barracks and military installations date from the British period. One can also see the wonderful view of Peshawar City specially Qissa Khawani bazar from rooftop of Fort.

It houses an interesting museum which showcases pictures of well-known political personalities, historical inscriptions, different uniforms and weaponry used by various local units of the Frontier Corps, and a picture gallery.

A field trip to fort Bala Hissar was arranged for the students of Grade 4 and 5.
