Take me deep into the wintry woods where hope glitters freshly worn.
Cold nights, cozy blankets, a warm cup of tea with a book by your side. Or an old sweet voice, telling the tales of ghosts, fairies and heroes to her young ones, which the heart hears even after years when the voice is no longer there.
The pain of leaving the blankets in the morning, the splash of water – cold enough to wake dead souls up, the soft knitted sweaters, the blissful first sip of coffee which goes straight to the heart, the first fresh cold morning breeze which touches the skin as soon as one opens the door, the sound of chirping birds sitting on wet branches of shabby trees, a walk on the pavement, inhaling deeply the fresh air while breathing and soaking in the fragrance of wet grass. The sun – peeking through the clouds – spreading the warmth over the town after a long cold night….the foggy nights, the mystical mornings, Winter is nothing less than magic.
If there ever is a question about a favourite season, my answer, like the most of us, would always – without a shadow of doubt – be WINTERS…
It takes a lot to keep your cool in the summers while it takes very little to make the most of the winters. Call upon your family members or friends, pull those sheets up, gather together in the TV room, watch a movie, munch on hot toasted popcorn and make memories that shall be treasured for life. Or, light up some woods, gather around the fire, sing songs and weave beautiful stories that shall be told for years to come…
It takes me back to the eve of December 25th, 2021. Mid-term this year at Warsak Campus Peshawar ended with laughter, smiles, songs, good food and celebrations.
A Bonfire was lit for middle school students. Benches, cushions and carpets were laid around the fire where everyone gathered, sang songs ate food and danced while sinking in the warmth and the calming sound of the crackling firewood. Campus was decorated with fairy lights, dried leaves, pumpkins, lanterns and silver trees. The atmosphere screamed as loud as it could of a warm cozy winter night.
