The Biggest Foe of Senioritis, Preparing for the SAT Exam and Starting University Applications by Maira Mustafa

As the CIEs came to an end and the senioritis began to set in , the students finally retired from their academic duties and looked forward to a summer that would be their salvation after months of misery. However, what awaited them was not a ‘wonderful summer’ (if this sweltering heat could ever be regarded as such) but, rather, the whirlpool called ‘university application season,’ ready to pull them in.

Fortunately, our brilliant faculty came to the rescue with a 9-week intensive SAT course and college preparation program.

The SAT course began by familiarizing students with the exam pattern and syllabus requirements. The syllabus was covered in manageable portions each day providing students with ample time to grasp and practice each concept before moving on to the next. The tailored attention given to each student acted as a catalyst for improvement, not only in scores but also in the candidates’ confidence in their approach to the exam. After all, the main goal was to make the SAT appear less daunting than it is made out to be in those pesky Instagram reels solving the ‘hardest’ questions (yes, the same ‘hard’ questions which you can either solve wearing a blindfold or need three different calculators for).

While SAT preparation was being tackled, our career advisors came in, equipped with their presentations and years of knowledge, to break down the admission process into defined components. The sessions, for the ease of all, were divided into two sections: Pakistani applications and international applications. Each session focused on specifics such as deadlines, score requirements, essay writing, financial aid, and scholarship availability. Students were promptly encouraged to voice their questions and clear any persistent doubts , which were many considering the plethora of misinformation surrounding us and the trauma ingrained in all by those videos listing down ‘Ivy league extracurriculars’.

This summer started with an onslaught of jargon related to the SAT and college applications —‘Early Decision,’ ‘FAFSA,’ ‘COA,’ ‘EFC,’ ‘Superscore,’ ‘percentile rank’—but soon it evolved into a step-by-step process detailing the approach to both these feats. With the guidance of our faculty, what started as a whirlwind of confusing terms became a clear path to success.

So, go ahead and register for the upcoming SAT if you haven’t already and get in touch with your assigned advisors to start crafting those applications!

An introduction about the author…
Hello Everyone!

I am Maira Mustafa, an A2 student who perpetually struggles to find some semblance of free time while balancing studying sciences and student council duties. However, when I do manage to catch a break amidst the chaos,I find myself gravitating towards writing in whatever genre appeases the most to me at the moment- be it poetry, narratives or blogs. Likewise, I aim to document and present a humor-infused account of all that unfolds this academic year.
