This April, our school has taken a bold and meaningful step toward creating a kinder, more empathetic environment through the launch of STOP THE ROT a unique anti-bullying initiative under the “Be the Chainbreaker” campaign.
The drive began with a simple yet powerful activity. Each student was asked to bring two tomatoes to school and place them in a sealed zip-lock bag, which they will carry with them throughout the entire month. At first glance, it may seem unusual—but the message behind it is deeply impactful.
As the days pass, the tomatoes will slowly begin to rot, producing an unpleasant smell and visible decay. This process is meant to symbolize how negative words, gossip, and bullying behaviors can spread and worsen over time if left unchecked. Just like the tomatoes, unkind actions don’t stay contained—they affect not only individuals but the entire community.
Alongside this, students have been given worksheets to reflect on their daily experiences. They are encouraged to honestly record moments when they have witnessed or experienced any form of bullying, as well as how these situations made them feel. This ongoing reflection allows students to become more aware of their actions and emotions, helping them understand the real impact of their words and behavior.

What makes STOP THE ROT especially powerful is that it is not just about observation—it is about transformation. By engaging students in both a physical and emotional journey, the initiative encourages them to take responsibility, show empathy, and speak up against unkindness.
The campaign will continue throughout April, building toward its culmination on the 30th. On that day, students will come forward to share their experiences, insights, and what they have learned from the activity. It will be a moment of reflection, growth, and collective understanding a chance to truly “break the chain” of bullying.
STOP THE ROT is more than just a school activity. It is a reminder that kindness matters, that words have power, and that every student has the ability to create a positive change. As this journey unfolds, it is clear that this initiative is planting the seeds for a more respectful and compassionate school community.
Together, we are not just watching the rot we are stopping it.
