Teaching students different writing techniques of the English language is indeed a tricky task. What seems on the surface a very simple activity requires quite a lot of brains to develop such methods of teaching that it would lodge that writing style into the student’s mind forever. For this very purpose Beaconhouse School System teachers are specifically guided and trained to inculcate physical and memorable activity along with the written tasks. This ensures the child’s interest and willingness to learn new concepts in language studies.
Procedure writing is an integral part of the English curriculum and it is pertinent for the children to understand the methodology for this type of writing. For this very purpose on 24 February, 2022 students of Grade 4 (Beaconhouse School System, Bahria Enclave Campus) had an activity to understand and learn procedure writing. Students were asked to bring simple ingredients such as chocolate biscuit, cookies or crackers and decorate them with delicious toppings like chocolate chips, marshmallows, bits of chocolate, sprinkles, cheese slices, Nutella, chunks of fruit and made delectable and quick treats out of them.
The children had a wonderful time coming up with creative ways to present the biscuit/cracker treats and sharing their reviews about the recipe they followed. At the end they wrote down a step by step guide of the way the treat, they had made, would have to be prepared. It is safe to say that the concept was fully embedded into their minds and they shall forever remember the methodology of how to write procedures for different activities. So a word of advice to my dear readers remember to be innovative and come up with simple tricks which would make way for better learning.
