“Leader in Me” – The Key Framework for Highly Effective People

People always have endorsed and discussed the best seller “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, a self-help book written by Stephen R. Covey but rarely have versed its true execution until children at BSS I-8/I-9 Campus seemed to gain hands-on experience, applying timeless principles that can help them to yield greater productivity, improving communications and strengthening relationships by working on these habits not only during their club activities but will practice it as a part of their curriculum and making it their school culture. To ensure this, even the support staff members were involved throughout these activities and were given an awareness session on student protection, social awareness, and emotional well-being.

A variety of social skills activities were designed majorly to help children master the 7 habits: Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, First to Understand, Then to be Understood, Synergize and Sharpen the Saw.
BSS I-8/I-9 Campus truly recognizes that the child’s public and emotional well-being is vital to their overall health and progress which ultimately leads to a successful academic career. The main purpose was to boost “leader in me” faith in every individual. Children were introduced to the terms “Social and emotional well-being” through presentations and they reflected on their prior knowledge by making some astounding posters. This helped them to master the habit of first to understand, then to be understood”.To inculcate the habit of synergizing and making our children proactive, the next club activity was TEAM BUILDING/TEAM WORK which bowed the campus into the most amazing abode to be on. We could see children giggling, jumping out of joy, and cheering while playing different team-building games at almost every site on the campus and the most fun part was to see teachers equally taking part as learners instead of being their instructors, which surely must have strengthened the teacher-student rapport.

A  yoga session was arranged to mend the emotional well-being of children and to develop the habit of Synergizing and Think Win-Win in them. They were imparted that yoga not only improves their physical forte, balance, and flexibility but also reduces stress and eases anxiety, a vital aspect of mental and emotional well-being.

A collaborative effort was also seen when a team from BNI – Beaconhouse Newlands, Islamabad came to I-9, and Ms. Anum Mukhtar (Clinical and Counseling Psychologist) lead the session to have an “Art is Therapy ” bustle with her team of DP students. Children were allowed to showcase their inner thoughts with the help of colors which surely helped them to talk open their minds and heart.

A session on Self-Defence was held through which children from early years to middle school cultured different practices to become independent and to be able to safeguard themselves. They were also taught to be aware of their surroundings.

Early year children became knowledgeable on the topic through classroom activities like storytelling on the safe environment, self-grooming, and healthy living. Distinguished guest speakers were also invited. Ms. Erum Jhumra (Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Therapist) had a session with teachers and early years children to make them aware of healthy eating as a part of social and emotional wellness.

Dr. Neelam Ayub ( Dermatologist and Aesthetic Physician) had a session with lower, upper, and middle school children on the prominence of personal hygiene and self-grooming.                             The club activities have culminated and children mirrored their overall takeaways by completing the tree of 7 habits. That

tree assists them to conclude that how by adopting these habits, they become flourishing grown up from young seedlings.
