The First Day of School and the Promise of Fresh Beginnings
“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.” – Abigail Adams
The start of a new academic year is signaled by the first day of school following a lengthy summer break. Students are starting anew on this day, full of anticipation, anxiety, and excitement as they are eager to make new friends, learn new things, and take on new challenges.
For students of all ages, the first day of school is a tornado of emotions. Younger pupils might be leaving the comfort of home for the first time to attend school. Uncertain of what to anticipate, they can experience a mixture of exhilaration and fear. The strain of academic standards and social dynamics may be present for older students who are changing schools or grades.
Year by year, the management at BSS I-9 Campus works diligently over the summer break to make sure that the student’s first day of class and the start of a new academic year are the best and most memorable moments of their lengthy educational journey.
This year, the start of the new academic year was held on 15th August 2023 and the day was well organized to set the tone for the rest of the year. On this day, the school’s senior management enthusiastically welcomed all the students standing at the well-decorated school’s gate. There was a general assembly in the school’s gymnasium where the Head of School, Ms. Nighet Javed made the opening remarks to encourage and uplift the morale of all the students and teachers. Her words emphasized the importance of education, setting goals, and building positive relationships within the school community.
The campus sincerely thinks that parents are an essential component of a child’s educational journey, thus the school also held a meet-and-greet session for them.
An orientation session was held by the class teachers. This gave them the chance to get to know the school’s facilities, teachers and to learn about the rules and regulations. Class teachers of all the grades also had planned various icebreaker activities to aid in the introduction of students and assisted them get to know one another. These included interactive games that encouraged students to interact with one another to establish new friends, team-building activities, and small-group conversations. The celebrations for Independence Day also took place during the first week of the new academic year.
The teachers set expectations, routines, and regulations for the classroom. They laid out their teaching methodology and introduce the curriculum. This has created the framework for an environment that is constructive and fruitful for learning. Students were also given an opportunity to commit to their academics and personal development by setting personal goals for the year.
New admissions who needed assistance navigating the school benefited from guided tours that pointed out key locations like classrooms, the library, and bathrooms. This helped them feel more at ease and secure in their new surroundings.
Throughout the first week, teachers and students started forming a bond. BSS I-9 Campus has teachers who are well-trained, dedicated, hard-working, and committed to fostering an accepting and encouraging environment where students feel free to share their ideas and ask questions. As a result, students on the campus always come to trust and appreciate their instructors, realizing that they are there to help and mentor them as they progress academically.
The first week at BSS I-9 Campus was a true presentation of building new relationships, new starts, and the chance to build resilience in the face of difficulties. Pupil entered their classrooms and started a path toward personal growth, education, and development.
It was a true depiction of striving to create a welcoming atmosphere on the first day and the following week to alleviate any anxieties students may have and to set a positive tone for the rest of the academic year. By providing support, information, and opportunities for connection, BSS I-9 Campus aims to ensure students feel valued, included, and excited about their educational journey.
