 یومِ دفاع – Defence Day

Here’s to the brave sons of the nation who give up what is theirs to save what is ours.

یہ غازی یہ تیرے پراسرار بندے
جنھیں تو نے بخشا ہے ذوق خدائی

We cannot resist the charm this uplifting piece of poetry by our National Poet “Mohammad Allama Iqbal” has ported on us. It is a message that would like to be forgotten, but in order to keep the essence and adoration for the country, and to make our younger generation fully aware of the gist of such poetry, we celebrate Defence day every year on the 6th of September. These celebrations are held all over the country and are to honor and reminisce the sacrifices of our armed forces over the years to protect us against our enemies and ensure our independence.

Beaconhouse is a school system that never lets go of a chance to lighten up the spirit of patriotism in our children. On 6th September 2022, an event was held in the BSS, I-9 campus to celebrate the Defence Day of Pakistan with overmuch passion and zeal displayed by each and every individual on the campus.

The perseverance overdue such an event is to pass on the spirit of patriotism from one generation to the next. Not only our values and traditions but also our deep respect and love for this country we call “Pakistan”.

Teachers and children were tied up in several practice sessions and the main event was manifested in how well coordinated the team was. The campus especially the main stage was gorgeously decked with captions and posters depicting the main event of the war held in 1965.

The event was graced by the honorable chief guest: Lt col (R) Noor Muhammad. He was born on August 13th, 1944 in Soon Sakesar valley. In 1971, As a captain, he did an intelligence course in Murree and got posted at OC FIU in Chitagong (East Pakistan). He served in various units and different appointments till his retirement in December 1994.

It was an honor for the campus and its participants to have him with them. He spoke about his experience that facilitated children to feel related to their history and also answered questions to our inquisitive brains. It was indeed brilliant listening to the history of the 1965 war from someone who actually was a part of the case. SHM, Mam Nighat Javed, also presented him with a shield of honor as a token of appreciation for his presence and to show admiration for his services to the country.

The ambiance became more zealous when children paid tribute and homage to the nation’s fearless soldiers and Armed Forces for their gallantry and sacrifices rendered to defend the country by presenting some astounding choir performances. The way children were performing was surely giving the audience some real goosebumps. It was a treat to see children from Early Years and Lower primary perform on stage. They were self-assured and seemed to be well aware of the origin behind the event. Different classroom activities also took place on campus to help children inquire more about their history which helped them to learn how to guard themselves.

Children also delivered some magical speeches which enthused the young ones even more. The content was enlightening and informed our children about the forfeit of our beloved martyrs and even of their families. Their speeches were well written and their oration truly showed team effort through the course of study as it is not a matter of just a few days of practice, it is indeed a reflection of hard work through the years at the I-9 campus.

The event was an extraordinary picture of how well the BSS I-9 campus is helmeted with all the tools to educate our young generation about the history of unlimited sacrifice by our older generation and soldiers to guard the freedom of our country. The whole process of organizing this event made them feel more patriotic and committed to working hard in any field of work they may be in and serving the country in the future as well.

“Day we dedicated to those great Martyrs who proved that Pakistan is before everything”

Happy Defence Day!
