BCP Metropolitan campus hosted its first Inter-Branch Bilingual Declamation’ competition on the 15th of November.
Declamation is an artistic form of public speaking and it gives students a platform to truly express themselves, this dramatic oration style puts emphasis on not only the words being spoken but gestures as well to understand the full sense of the text being conveyed.
This event hosted students from numerous Beaconhouse branches such as Potohar, Wah, BSTR, BMI and Bahria Enclave. Speech after speech the audience was either sitting at the edge of their seat in anticipation to know what the words of Oscar Wilde really mean as our English category speakers spoke about what it really means to judge a book by its cover and as they shared jokes about saints and sinners. It reflected the fact that they had understood that inspiring speeches are examples of great oratory skills such as the power to appeal to the sentiments of the audience and stir up the emotions of the listeners.
However, it was truly the performance by the speakers in the Urdu humorous category which had the entire tent roaring with laughter and applause. They were very well prepared and their speeches were extremely witty with references to our society’s obsession with disregarding eastern culture and adopting the language and behavior of the west. At this Declamation not only was the content of our participants stellar but their style and delivery was captivating as well.

Through events like these Participants gain experience in the art of persuasion and public speaking and not only learn from each other but also have a lot of fun throughout the process.
