Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal. It has nothing to do with seniority or one’s position in the hierarchy of a community or a group; this is why everyone has the ability to harness their leadership skills. With support and encouragement, every young person has the potential to become a leader in some area of their life. The qualities, values and skills invested in them during their formative years can determine their life’s success and the future success of our society. Learning a range of leadership skills and techniques from a young age can provide students with an excellent head start in life and allows them to develop confidence and improve their overall mental wellbeing.
The recent executive Student Council Elections at Beaconhouse College Programme were a display of student leadership at its very best. The aspiring candidates were shortlisted through a rigorous process of interviews. They were then given a chance to display their leadership skills and try to convince the student body to vote for them through a zealous campaign. The candidates gave fiery speeches in a special assembly and later moved in the classes talking to the students on an individual basis. The culmination of this process was the Election Day on 21st September. The balloting process was organized keeping Covid SOP’s in mind. At the end of the day, the votes were counted and the students awaited eagerly to hear the announcement. The Principal of BMI, Ms. Ayesha Ansar announced the results. The students cheered wildly when the names of the new Head girl and Head boy were announced. Shayan Zahra was elected as the Head Girl whereas Omar Shamil was elected as the Head Boy for the session 2021-22! Best of luck to the new student leaders!
