Leadership is communicating people’s worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves.”

At Beaconhouse, we strongly believe in empowering students by giving them Voice and Choice in their learning journey. Recently, our Grade 3, 4, and 5 students participated in a unique activity where they were invited to create their Homework Schedules , an initiative rooted in the principles of The Leader in Me program and closely connected to Habit 8: Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs.

Instead of being given a fixed timetable, students were encouraged to take ownership of their learning by planning when and how they would complete their assignments. This process gave them the opportunity to practice decision-making, responsibility, prioritization, and self-management.

Students collaborated in groups, discussed the importance of balance between academics and leisure, and created schedules that reflected their own preferences and strengths. This practice not only motivated them but also nourished their ability to become independent learners who are capable of managing their time effectively.

The activity highlighted several important aspects:

  • Empowerment – Students felt their opinions mattered.

  • Accountability – They understood the importance of sticking to their chosen plan.

  • Confidence – By sharing their schedules, they practiced communication and self-expression.

  • Leadership – They inspired their peers by showcasing creative and practical scheduling ideas.

One student beautifully expressed: “When we got to plan our own homework, it felt like our voice mattered, and we were trusted like leaders.”

This initiative demonstrates how integrating Voice and Choice into everyday practices cultivates ownership, motivation, and leadership. It reflects our mission to raise students who don’t just follow directions but take charge of their own growth , truly living the essence of Habit 8.

At Beaconhouse, we are not only shaping learners but also developing leaders of tomorrow.
