Embracing Dignity Through Connection: Our Inspiring Interaction with Ida Rieu Graduates

Ida Rieu is a leading institution in Karachi, Pakistan, dedicated to providing free education and vocational training to blind and deaf students. Its mission is to empower students with hearing and visual impairments, helping them to “turn disability into ability” and live independent, productive lives.

Three students were selected to represent Beaconhouse School System, E-11 Campus, in an online interaction with the graduates of Ida Rieu as part of the Global Dignity Day celebrations. The first was me ,the Head Girl of the campus  along with the Eco-Friendly Ambassador and the Lighthouse Ambassador from our school.

At first, I was a bit nervous, but as they say, when you feel it, you do it. We had prepared a few meaningful questions to ask, focusing on respect, inclusion, and the value of dignity ,the true essence of Global Dignity Day. Some of the questions we created together, while others we came up with during the call.

When we joined the session, we met Ms. Rubicca, who was kind, humble, and welcoming. She shared how their school promotes teamwork and independence. We also interacted with Ms. Asma and Mr. Abid, two inspiring students who told us about their learning journey and the games they enjoy playing.

The interview was an enlightening experience. It reminded us that dignity means respecting everyone’s abilities, appreciating differences, and seeing the strength in others. We learned not only how to conduct an interview but also how kindness and empathy can bridge any gap. The session truly reflected the spirit of Global Dignity Day ,celebrating respect, equality, and the power of human connection.
