HAFTA e URDU ADAB

It is paramount to understand that national language makes a country become a respectable and unique nation. When a language is declared to be national, the state is committing to guard and endorse it so that citizens can use it more readily. To infiltrate deep into a community, one must be able to speak the language of the community.

Urdu is Pakistan’s national language. The country also has several regional languages, including Punjabi, Saraiki, Pashto, Sindhi, Balochi, Gujari, Kashmiri, Hindko, Brahui, Shina, Balti, Khowar, Dhatki, Haryanvi, Marwari, Wakhi, and Burushaski.

The earliest linguistic influences in the development of Urdu probably began with the Muslim conquest of Sindh in 711. The language started evolving from Farsi and Arabic contacts during the invasions of the Indian subcontinent by Persian and Turkic forces from the 11th century onward. “HAFTA e Urdu Adab” was celebrated with full swing in BKI f8/2. Different insightful activities were planned grade level-wise to create awareness amongst children about their national language. All these activities helped them to understand the importance of having a national language and the history of the Urdu language.

Each grade level presented their Urdu week’s groundwork on one nominated day and chief guests including Mrs. Rubbina Mashood, Sir Sohail, Mrs. Shazia, Javed Sidique, Ayesha Masood were invited to appreciate their efforts as well. Children felt encouraged to receive much appreciation from our honorable chief guests.

Children were involved in Urdu handwriting competition, Urdu spell check, story writing in Urdu, Urdu poetry (self-made), tablo, singing of Urdu national songs, recitation of poems from famous Urdu poets and respectfully imitating National Poet “Allama Iqbal” in order to introduce them to our children.

The aim of these activities and this dedicated week for Urdu was to stimulate the understanding of owning our national language. This week helped children to start enjoying learning Urdu vocabulary, Urdu poetry and instill interest to know of our famous poets and Urdu writers. Children could connect themselves with the poetry and writings done for them.
