The BCP science society sparked off the Society’s’ progress by arranging one of the First official Student led event of the Year. After careful planning and deliberation, Asna Atif’s (Head science Society) idea came to fruition in a splendid manner leaving everyone on campus in awe.
The Science Discourse was a unique event not just in name but in concept as well and its decorated execution is testament to the skill and hard work of the students. The Event took science, debates and the court of law and jumbled them into one fine riveting setting that became an arena for the clash of ideas, presentation, arguments and verdicts.
In this interesting take on courts, teams of three were allowed to participate in what would be a moot/brawl style debate session but with the spark of law all with a judge, a jury and the right to object. Students acted as lawyers on behalf of personalities from the scientific community and would present their “case” to the judge and jury in hopes of convincing them that their argument was right. The science faculty of BCP acted as judge and jury for the event. There were two rounds with two teams contesting in each. The first round was a marvelous spectacle of students arguing over a question that researchers of the modern era are themselves torn about. Namely, “ Is cognitive behavioral therapy better for treating neural disorders in comparison to neural medication?”. The psychology teacher Ms Numra Fayyaz was seated as judge in this round. After a fierce round of arguments the team siding with behavioral therapy won their case.
Round two was equally captivating and left the jury polarized. The Argument for this round was “Is metaverse a threat to communities”. The Computer Sciences teacher Mr. Azhar Hussain acted as judge for this round and with an extensive list of exhibits and arguments established by the teams, the prosecution won the case with flying colours against the lawyers of Metaverse.
In the closing ceremony the over all winning team received an exquisite shield to commemorate their victory. The event was carefully planned and organized by the science society and left their teachers and fellows proud.
