Qawali is one of the primary forms of musical entertainment that traces its rich legacy back to the subcontinent. It is a vibrant composition of artistic expression, and has been celebrated profusely throughout all times. Thus, Beaconhouse College Program also found itself adhering to this wealthy tradition. Serving as a detachment from the academic routine, it is one of the most awaited events of the year. Hence, it is no surprise that the Qawali Night was met with excitement and celebrated with intoxicating ecstasy. Arranged by the BCP debating society, it
aimed not only to relieve the burden on the students’ minds, but also to
illuminate a beacon of admiration in
their hearts for their mellifluous cultural
ancestry. The event bore fruit due to the indefatigable efforts of the direc-
tors and
the handsome contribution by the members of the management. The presence of the notable qawal, Abad Ali Abad, played a significant role in making this event live up to the hype that surrounded it.
This phenomenal event was inaugurated
with the classical and spiritual qawali: “Tu kuja mun kuja.” Sequentially,
many
qawalis were sung, each verse re-verbing among the audience with its own delight, each more elegant than its predecessor, and more fragrant than its posterity. Using traditional musical instruments and modern rhythmic modes, the qawal inebriated the audience with his elating performance. Students clapped, sang and even danced with their souls swept away by the tides of musical sensation. Certainly, this eventful night served quite
complementary to the great college life
that awaited the entire student body!
